Biography
Somenath Roy was born at Lucknow, on 4th February, 1960. He is a distinguished Bengali poet, a short story writer and an essayist rolled into one. His father Anil Roy, a sitarist had the premature death when the poet was a mere child. His mother Ranu Roy brought her four children up in her paternal home at Nabadwip. His passion for playing sitar in his boyhood reined in his boyish emotion and restlessness. He inherited the musical instrument from his father. He passed Madhyamik examination from Nabadwip Hindu School and Draftsmanship from Krishnanagar. He went to Calcutta to find a mooring and there he got his Diploma in Architectural Engineering. Since 1985 he is an employee under P.W.(Roads) Department as Draughtsman. While he was having his training of Sitar under Pundit Asit Dutta, he started writing poems in ’80s. He is a man known for his magnanimity, honesty and simplicity and all these qualities have been reflected in his poems abundantly….
